When I saw Ana 7 years ago, I bought her because of her trot. See, she was supposed to be my next endurance horse and you need a trot like that. She nearly fatally injured herself shortly after coming home – and through our work with Nancy, the asymmetry that she developed upon healing has
disappeared. Nobody can tell that she had such a traumatic injury to her stifle collateral ligaments – and she can motor on trails all day.
When it became clear to me that Ana and I didn’t speak the same language and we, in fact, were scared of each other, I finally called Nancy. It took a long time, but slowly we became a partnership under the tutelage of Nancy. Ana has grown into a much bolder horse, who has impeccable manners; and I’d like to think I have become a kinder, gentler rider. She forgives me my mistakes, and I her – we learn and push on through them now rather than fight and have meltdowns. Nancy has a way of getting the needle to move even when you don’t think you are making any progress. And then one day you realize just how far you have come when something that routinely resulted in a panic attack was no big deal.
Nancy has given me the horse I only wished I had – lots of hard work and tears later, I can officially say that it’s been a great journey and I look forward to continuing it with Ana, with Nancy by our side.
